How to choose the right party earplug?

You’re looking for filter earplugs to use during festivals, concerts and going out. Obviously you want a solid level of protection without loss of music quality. In terms of universal hearing protection, we offer the PartyPlug and the PartyPlug Pro Natural. What is the difference and which one is the best choice for you?

It's all about the filters!

The PartyPlug Pro Natural has linear attenuating filters and the PartyPlug non-linear. The filters are the biggest difference.

The Alpine PartyPlug Pro Natural earplugs have linear filters. They attenuate almost the same amount of decibels across all frequencies. As a result, distortion of the music is minimal. In other words, you hear the music exactly the same, but softer. Like turning down the volume!

The Alpine PartyPlugs have non-linear filters. These attenuate high frequencies more than lower ones. So Alpine PartyPlug earplugs attenuate a bit more in the higher frequencies. With this, the music might sound a little different than with a linear filter.

Linear attenuation versus non-linear attenuation

The ear and one’s perception of sound are very complex. Very simply put, we have the volume of sound, which is usually measured in decibels. And the frequency of sound, or the pitch. The high frequencies are more damaging to one’s hearing than the low ones. Therefore, most hearing protectors attenuate higher frequencies more than low ones.

More attenuation in the higher frequencies also has a disadvantage. The music doesn’t sound exactly the same as when you’re not using earplugs. You hear the low tones a bit louder relative to the high ones.

Do filter earplugs with non-linear attenuation perform less well?

Not at all! They protect your ears properly but a true music lover might hear the difference. It is also very personal what works best for you.

Do earplugs with linear attenuation protect properly?

Absolutely! The Alpine PartyPlug Pro also offer high levels of protection during festival, concerts and club nights. These earplugs have linear filters, with an average attenuation of 21 decibels. The sound level at a club, concert or festival is usually between 90 and 103 decibels. So the Alpine PartyPlug Pro Natural earplugs bring the noise down to below 80-82 decibels. In which you can safely spend the whole day (8 hours).

What are the other differences between the two products?

In addition to the difference in filters, you get a number of extra accessories with the Alpine PartyPlug Pro Natural. Each package contains a transparent elastic lanyard, to prevent loss. Additionally, you get a small Alpine Clean cleaning spray and a handy pouch with a hook for your trousers, key chain or phone case. The PartyPlug always comes with the Miniboxx to attach to your keys.
